Melanie & Nick - About Us
Nick and myself have been painting and drawing for pet portraits for commission since we left art college over 16 years ago. We live in West Wales, UK in a little old cottage with our rescue dog Tom. Our cottage is pretty old, we're not too sure how old, however it has been estimated to be around 200 to 300 years old, and was possibly here in some form before that. We know that it has developed over the centuries and was once thatched with a crog loft.
Our pet art studio is in part of the cottage, when we moved in we kitted it out to our own bespoke design so that we have dedicated areas to work - two painting areas, one for nick and one for myself, a printing and materials area and a pet portraits packing / photography area and cutting desk. This is where we spend most of our working day so it has to be comfortable and workable. Our cottage is a cosy place to be, especially in the winter, you can see the photo below showing our inglenook fireplace. When the fire is lit the house comes alive. This is how they built houses in 'those days' the fire was the heart of the house.
We often get a flurry of snow each winter and I have added a few pictures below and some from our garden in the summer months. We enjoy gardening and have a fairly large garden with a bit of woodland which is always handy for winter fuel.
Our garden is also home to our four resident pet chickens, Clarrie and Phyllis are two Cochin bantams, Emily is a Wellsummer and Henny Penny is a Bluebell. We aim to be a little self sufficient with the veg garden and the eggs!
