Cat Portraits Commission Information

Portrait: 'Soda' with Plain Background.
Size & Medium:
18 x 14 Oils on Gallery Wrap Linen Canvas.
Commissioned from:
USA.

This Oil cat portrait was commissioned by Nicole in the USA in 2011. She wanted us to paint Soda in oils using two photos, one for the main pose and one to use for tail reference to curl it around Soda's body. Nick painted this portrait at 18 x 14 and we had our local framer frame the painting too. You can see photos of Nick painting the portrait below, along with the final scan, details of the portrait, the reference photos and the framed painting too! We also had a very insightful email from Nicole during the painting progress as she was watching the stages progress on our portraits in progress blog. I have added it below for you to read. I hope you enjoy this page of information and if you would like to commission us to paint your pet don't hesitate to email us at any time.

The Cat Portrait in Progress

We try to make sure we take a number of photos of the portrait during the day and display them on our portraits in progress blog for our clients to see. We have daylight easel lamps which allow us to see the painting in pure natural light, and sometimes this lighting effect the photos that we take. This can account for colour differences between each stage and the final scan below.

Melanie,
I just happened to check the blog and saw the first stages of Soda's portrait! The wait is worth it for the excitement you get from seeing your own portrait worked on. I find it very interesting to watch the process of the painting, how things are built up and changed, and the fact that it is my own cat is a bonus :) I have not been able to stop smiling since seeing the pictures and am excited to see even more as Nick progresses!

The Oil Painting with Detail
We scan the majority of our artwork here in the studio, we have an epson scanner, or for the very large paintings we take photographs of the artwork using a Sony DSLR camera, a tripod and two diffused photography lights. Our scans and photographs are always perfect quality if clients require giclee prints of their hand painted portrait for friends or family.

Client Cat Portraits Reference Photos
Our clients email a range of photographs for us to work with, we use one for the main pose of the portrait and others for detail, backgrounds etc The photographs depicted below may vary in colour to the finished painting above. This can be due to the scanned oil painting being slightly different to the original or often clients give us more than one photo to work from i.e. one for the pose and another for colouring.

Client Comments and Feedback
We are always thrilled to read our clients emails, we are in touch with clients via email and sometimes via telephone, skype and texts throughout the entire process. Clients also leave us messages on our portraits in progress blog when they are watching their portrait in progress and also comment on our facebook page too. We try to add snippets of their emails here for you to read, plus you can see more photos of happy clients with the portraits in our client feedback section and on our main pet portraits website feedback section too.

Melanie,
The portrait looks stunning, again I cannot stop smiling! It is amazing the amount of detail Nick was able to capture. Looking at the close up picture on the blog it seems as if he painted every single hair and she is quite a hairy lady so I'm sure that was a huge task to undertake! He captured her personality and likeness perfectly. When I receive the painting I will be sure to take a picture of her sitting next to it, and I would be willing to bet it will look like a mirror image since that is her usual sitting pose!

Please tell Nick he did an awesome job and I cannot thank him enough! Nicole Blanton

Melanie,
Wow, that was very fast! I am looking forward to seeing the photos of it framed, and of course finally receiving the painting too :)
Both you and Nick have been great to work with. Since I work in a vet's office the topic of getting a memorial portrait of a pet comes up sometimes with clients, I will be sure to mention your website the next time it does because both of you produce beautiful artwork :)

Melanie,
Just mailing you to say the portrait arrived today in perfect shape. It looks so lovely in real life, very soft and a perfect representation of Soda. The colours are perfect and the detail is even more amazing to see in person. Thank you and Nick so much! I will try to get a picture of her next to the portrait in the next day or so.
Thank you again!

Melanie,

I am so sorry it has taken this long for me to get back to you! Some crazy days at work coupled with cloudy days providing no good natural light have kept me from getting a picture of Soda with the portrait until now. I have attached a photo of her next to the portrait and while she isn't in the exact same pose like I promised it is pretty close :) She is rather camera shy these days, I think because I have taken so many pictures of her, so it was hard to get her to sit still. I am glad it wasn't just me who was surprised at how quickly the portrait got here. It was a pleasant surprise as I wasn't expecting it so soon!

Just want to thank you guys again. The portrait is so beautiful and will make me smile for years to come.
